One For The Founders
As the say in their own words:
"The project to put together a true “trad ska (jazz)” group capable of playing as a Fanfare (marching band type thing) or a stage storming full on brass heavy outfit had been in our heads for a little while before we finally got our horns into gear in November 2010.
All in all we have had a lot of fun discovering and recreating those sounds, the reaction from the public when they hear the music again or for the first time has been fantastic. So we decided to record this last year’s work as a little tribute in our own fashion to the musicians who planted the tree of ska nearly 50 years ago.
We will always come back to the roots and no doubt will cover other tunes, but for now, we are taking the next step in our journey and working on our own compositions which rest true to the spirit and style but with our own touch.
The one exception on this CD is our version of Blue Trane. We had a few minutes to spare in the studio and decided to have a go at John Coltrane’s “Blue Trane” in a ska style. We liked it so here it is. Since recording it we have changed and refined the harmonies and arrangement a little but this is the version that came out on the day".
