Description

To coincide with its 15th anniversary, Le Grand Miércoles' debut album is being reissued. Originally released as El Gran Miércoles (a name that had to be changed for legal reasons), this album, along with its limited run of 300 copies and the lack of an official digital release, makes it a very special collector's item.

But above all, it's a statement of intent, which the quartet (now a quintet) has continued to uphold to this day with more releases and tours, both nationally and internationally. They reaffirm a sound that continues to get people dancing and spark the interest of fans of Jamaican roots music, surf, western, and other related subgenres, all combined in a 100% instrumental, cinematic sound that's essential for discerning listeners.

Fifteen years later, Liquidator is reissuing this remastered album, with a revised cover and two bonus tracks that will delight longtime fans and newcomers alike. This formula not only remains timeless but, like a fine wine savored on the sands of California, Montego Bay, and the Mediterranean, only gets better with age.

We're still riding high, and we're celebrating with this succulent vinyl.
Because this is still SURF-STEADY!

…………….

Dear listeners:

We've gathered here to celebrate the union of two genres and their offshoots. Two types of music seemingly separated by race, time, and space, yet with enough in common to make their fusion more than just a risky endeavor, an experiment, or a whim of the sea.

This quintet invites us to trust in blends crafted with discernment and a distinctive style. From the crest of every raging ocean, the laws of gravity and balance are defied. The soundtrack to this phenomenon is here: Jamaican music and surf, reggae and western, celluloid ska, rock & roll and dub, roots and swing, psychedelia and rocksteady, and more satellite styles united to transport our ears to a honeymoon.

Hailing from Valencia and Alicante, this group, comprised of members from Jamaican bands (Golden Singles, Ki Sap, Malarians...), surf bands (Los Turanga, Los Pataconas), and emerging artists (Dr. Jau & Peanut Vendors, Dwomo), brings a unique vision, sound, and original compositions. These, combined with surf-infused adaptations of Jamaican folk classics and vice versa, form a compelling debut album (originally released on Golden Singles Records and now reissued by Liquidator). It's a genuine rarity, an easy-listening curiosity, accessible... and undeniably sexy.

The beach, the palm trees, the rude boys/cowboys, the mountains, the sweltering heat, the rhythms of the sea, the energy, the dance music, the garlands, the attitude, the wildness… these are the common denominators in these genres that the El Gran Miércoles laboratory has managed to combine into a proposal unsuitable for the orthodox and essential for the curious and restless palates. Open your minds to an experiment that takes us to a dance that is both lazy and frenetic. Outlaws of Montego Bay, bandits of Waireka Hills, rude boys on the run, defiant before the waves. This is their vision, and it's time to defend it. They don't hide in the scene; they are a rarity in no man's land, a desert land with beach sand. This is Surf-Steady.

With an energetic live show and a quartet format, they deliver a 100% instrumental repertoire, both mellow and edgy, featuring meticulous arrangements and representative elements of reggae, surf, classic ska, dub, and western in all their splendor. Now, in this new format, these veterans of the scene—Augustus Pablo, Ventures, Skatalites, and others—have changed their style but retained the magic in this sensual offering.

What music has joined together, let no man put asunder. Anyone who objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace. The newlyweds can finally kiss and open the dance floor...

...This is Surf-Steady!!
